Guidance and Support for Community Job Seekers

I am Wadood Dilsoz, President of the Afghan Community Vancouver Foundation. Every week, we meet with about 10 to 15 members of our community to listen to their concerns, answer their questions, and try to find ways to support them.
One of the most common challenges we hear from newcomers is employment. Some community members tell us that even after three years in Canada, they have not been able to secure a stable or suitable job. Others say that in two years they have sent 80 or 90 resumes to different businesses but have not received a response. Just yesterday, I met a gentleman who told me that he has lived in Vancouver for one year and sent about 25 job applications, yet unfortunately he has not received any replies.
For those facing similar challenges, I would like to share two important points.
First, please do not lose hope or become discouraged by rejection. The job market can be difficult, especially for newcomers who are adjusting to a new country and sometimes facing language barriers.
Second, treat your job search like a full-time job. Searching for work should be something you do every day. When you actively apply online, visit businesses, and follow up regularly, you can send many applications each week. Over time, you will gain experience, improve your approach, and significantly increase your chances of finding employment.
If you have questions or need guidance, please feel free to contact us. We are always happy to meet with community members and do our best to support you.
We wish you success and the very best in your journey.
